This room takes its name from the Palazzo dell’Orologio which is possible to admire from the window.
This has been rebuilt on the foundations of two historic towers of the Della Gherardesca family and was used as a hospice and prison for the Order.
It is in this medieval building that Count Ugolino della Gherardesca and his family – protagonists in one of the most famous pages of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy – were held prisoners and died.
